Intervention Information

  • Reading intervention is a set aside time for teachers to meet with students in a small group to focus on areas of study the student needs extra help in mastering. At Grantswood, this time is daily from 8:15 until 8:45. Right now we are focuing on letter naming. During this time, all students remain in the classroom and students who come to school during this time will wait in the gym until intervention is over. It is very important to have your child to school on time so he/she will not miss any class time. Other skills we will target later on in the year are letter sounds, segmenting and blending, and sight words.

  • There is also time for math small groups from 12:30 until 1:00. Our target skill is counting to 100.

Math

  • Our math curriculum consists of investigations that allow students to become active learners by using manipulatives and technology. Math time is far from the math time of old. It is now a time to get on the floor and collaborate with classmates. Problem solving and mental math strategies are at the core of what we do so if you dont see many worksheets come home, this is why.
